Sevilla FC vs Inter Milan Betting Odds and Predictions

Final in Cologne! After a long, long break, the Europa League has run through its remaining program in no time at all, so that only two teams are left: Inter Milan and FC Sevilla will fight for the European crown on Friday evening in the Rhein-Energie-Stadion. The significantly stronger team seem to be the Nezzazuri, who came up with a 5-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals. Seville, on the other hand, reached the final thanks largely to Manchester United’s chances. Can that go well for the record champions?

Europa League Final: Sevilla FC vs Inter Milan

Date: Friday, 21 August 2020

Everything was set up for a final between Manchester United and Inter Milan: The traditional European clubs successfully avoided each other, both going into the semi-finals as favorites. For the Red Devils, however, it was over – Sevilla FC won 2-1. The Andalusians had hardly any convincing arguments: United took the lead early on, thanks to a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, and then there were some power play-like game sequences. Sevilla struggled to keep Manchester from scoring goals – the team could not have complained about three, four, five goals.

Ultimately, however, the Red Devils failed miserably several times, so that the game remained open after Seville’s interim equalization. In the final phase, a brilliant moment from captain Jesus Navas was enough to decide the game: the right-winger initially held the ball strongly before he hit a perfect cross into the six-yard area, where Luuk de Jong was able to insert thanks to the poor floor plan by Lindelof. 2: 1 for Sevilla, perfect entry into the final – once again.

The Andalusians already have five Europa League titles. This makes them the record winners of the competition – and something like the eternally successful underdog: In almost no year Seville went into the season as the favorite, even in the final the Spaniards often had the weaker cards. Nevertheless, Julen Lopetegui’s team prevailed in all five previous finals: 4-0 against Middlesbrough (2006), 3-1 against Espanyol Barcelona (2007), 4: 2 against Benfica Lisbon (2015), 3: 2 against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (2016) and 3: 1 against Liverpool (2017).

Since the triple triumph from 2015 to 2017, it has become a little quieter for the Andalusians – but there is a chance of title number six. Seville’s squad is balanced, solid in all parts of the team, with a few upward trends: Captain Navas was already on board for the Europa League successes in 2006 and 2007, is also English champion (ManCity 2014), world champion (2010) and European champion ( 2014). Even in Inter Milan’s top squad, nobody can compete with such a collection of titles. At the other end of the field, Sevilla has a promising youngster in striker Munir who, with five goals in eight games, is one of the best attackers of the season.

Lukaku in top shape

Here, however, the Nezzazuri have a clear advantage, because their star seems to be downright under-challenged in the Europa League: Romelu Lukaku scored in ten international games in a row – a terrific record. In the current season, there are six goals in five games. Behind the spearhead Lukaku, Inter has built the most powerful team in years:

He is world-class, Christian Eriksen pulls the strings in midfield – and defenders like Diego Godin are her husband. The club hired Antonio Conte as the architect of the team, who successfully equipped the Milanese with a tactical concept. In the previous Europa League season, no team could even come close to matching this class: After Inter failed in the Champions League group stage, the club Ludogorez Razgrad, Getafe, and Bayer Leverkusen stood in passing before the Shakhtar Donetsk semi-finals is waiting. Many expected a close encounter as the Ukrainians were considered a secret favorite. It turned out completely different.

Inter won 5-0 on Monday evening, with the team rolling over their opponents. Such a high victory was not exactly in sight – but the result is okay: After the Nezzazuri was the better team over 90 minutes, they rewarded themselves with four goals in the last half an hour for an excellent performance. Milan had the game under control at all times, Shakhtar with his great offensive never got a move. Perhaps the most vivid proof of Inter’s superiority was the 5-0: A few meters from the centerline, Lukaku switched on the turbo and ran over his defender like a schoolboy before he eased into the final score.

The decisive factor was the pressing of the Italians: For the entire season, one of the strengths of the Conte-Elf was to bring their opponents into disastrous situations. Against Schachter, ball wins deep in the opposing half were the starting point for three goals. Seville has to be extremely careful here.

Impressive series

On the other hand, the Andalusians also have their arguments: The Lopetegui team has been unbeaten for 20 games, outperforming Inter Milan’s equally strong streak (11 games). Seville’s path to the final was also much more difficult: With AS Roma (2-0), Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-0) and Manchester United (2-1), the Spaniards left three top clubs behind.

Nevertheless, one should not make the mistake of settling the teams on an equal footing – because they are not: Seville revealed serious deficiencies on the defensive against ManUnited, which only remained without consequences because the Red Devils had caught a day to forget. Against Inter Milan, you shouldn’t count on this to happen again. After all, Lukaku and Martinez are two of the best strikers in Europe on the Milan contract list. The individual force of the squad, as well as the tactical skill of coach Conte, should be decisive in the end.
