Does Famalicao prevent the Benfica vs Porto final? Let’s find out together in our betting prediction below
Four teams are currently still in the race for the title in the Portuguese Cup. Since the first legs in the semi-finals were completed last week, there are many indications that the country’s best two teams will face each other in the final on May 24th. What is meant are Benfica Lisbon and FC Porto, who also make up the champions among themselves in the home league.
Famalicao vs Benfica Lisbon Betting Odds and Predictions
Before doing so, however, the duty must be completed. While Porto has a home advantage against the second division side Academica de Viseu on Wednesday and holds all the trump cards in their own hands after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the “Aguias” are challenged abroad. In the north of the country, the return leg Famalicao against Benfica Lisbon increases. According to the odds, there is little doubt that the league leader will reach the final, especially since the first leg was won 3-2 at home.
The starting position for “Os Encarnados” is of course dangerous, because after all, the surprisingly strong promoted player on Tuesday evening would be a 1-0 win in front of their home crowd to make the sensational leap into the title game thanks to the away goals rule applied.
However, the current state of the Sousa-Elf raises questions as to whether the coup is actually realistic. At the weekend, the sixth-placed Primeira Liga received, for example, a 0: 7 swatter at home against Vitoria Guimaraes, which should not have done the confidence well. Consequently, a prediction of the away win is definitely close between Famalicao and Benfica Lisbon.
Famalicao – Statistics & current form
At the end of October the sports gazettes were still titled by the furious Futebol Clube de Famalicão. The newcomer from northern Portugal sensationally led the country’s top division in the first weeks of the season and was still in an excellent third place with seven wins from nine games at the end of October. The first experts even believed the blue-whites to become the Leicester 2.0.
In the meantime, however, the situation in the Vila Nova de Famalicão has calmed down significantly. The team of coach Joao Pedro Sousa could not maintain the very high level and has dropped position by position in the past weeks or months. At the moment, however, the newcomer still ranks in great sixth place – with close contact.
Nevertheless, it will be an almost impossible undertaking for the footballers from the Braga district to qualify for international business. Although only two counters in fourth place are missing, the shape curve has clearly been pointing down recently. Since the beginning of November, Famalicao has only managed two wins in eleven league games. From the past four matches, the blue-whites only scored two points.
However, the fans reached their lowest point in the small Estadio Municipal 22 de Junho at the weekend when their team went down 7-0 at home against Vitoria Guimaraes. In the most recent three matches, the Sousa team conceded twelve goals. This is one of the reasons why there is almost no alternative between Famalicao and the formidable Benfica Lisbon.
However, the underdog has to be reassured that the cup competition obviously has a higher priority than the league, because there is no other way to explain that the coach spared some top performers on Saturday and switched on late in the game or even left them completely outside. This would at least explain why the odds on the front-runner between Famalicao and Benfica Lisbon are somewhat higher than we would have thought based on recent impressions.
Probable lineup of Famalicao:

➤ Coach: Sousa

Benfica Lisbon – Statistics & current form
With 26 titles in the Taca de Portugal, Benfica Lisbon is still the record winner in the most important Portuguese cup competition. It is therefore a little surprising that the Adler 2016/2017 were allowed to lift the trophy for the last time. It was also one of only three triumphs in the current millennium.
Last year, the Reds failed in the semi-finals against city rivals Sporting Lisbon. This season the finals should finally be realized again. The starting position is decent, but could be a little more comfortable. Thanks to last week’s 3-2 win, coach Bruno Lage’s team, who has been in charge since mid-January, would be enough to take a draw to advance.
If we look at the latest results of the “Os Encarnados” between Famalicao and Benfica Lisbon even a tip on a guest success seems anything but unrealistic. The capital city club won 18 of 20 games in the current season in the Primeira Liga and only suffered the second defeat at the national level at the weekend in Porto. The “Aguias” continue to lead the ranking, even though the lead in second place has shrunk to four.
Nevertheless, we can rightly say that Julian Weigl and Co. are currently the best and most consistent soccer team from the country of the European champion of 2016. The mere fact that Benfica has won nine of the previous ten guest appearances in the league and only conceded a meager six goals (three of them in Porto) underscores the thesis that a departure of the industry leader on Tuesday evening would be a great surprise.
Instead, we assume that the record champions and record cup winners will not be naked and will throw everything in the balance to set the course early for victory. Only in the event of a deficit in the course of the game could the situation team go swimming and throw away the almost certainly believed entry into the final. But this scenario is not really likely. With the exception of central defender Jardel, the coach can draw on unlimited resources.
Probable lineup of Benfica Lisbon:
➤ Vlachodimos – Grimaldo, Ferro, Dias, Almeida – Cervi, Samaris, Taarabt, Rafa Silva – Chiquinho, Seferovic
➤ Coach: Lage
Last games from Benfica Lisbon:

⚽️ W 01/31/2020 – Benfica Lisbon vs. Belenenses Lisbon 3-2 (Primeira Liga)
⚽️ W 01/26/2020 – FC Paços de Ferreira vs. Benfica Lisbon 0-2 (Primeira Liga)

Famalicao vs Benfica Lisbon Direct comparison
So far there have been twelve competitive games between the two clubs. With ten wins (one draw, one bankruptcy), “O Glorioso” clearly leads the direct comparison as expected. The clubs have met twice this season, both times in Lisbon. Benfica easily won 4-0 in the league, but in the first leg of the cup competition the Eagles had a lot more trouble last week.
In the 3-2 win, the league leader was 1: 2 behind and ultimately only benefited thanks to two late goals from Rafa Silva (78th) and Gabriel (90th). We don’t think the favorite will take the underdog lightly again this time. A concentrated performance is required to be able to play for the title again for the first time since 2017.
Famalicao vs Benfica Lisbon Betting Odds and Predictions
The semi-final second leg in the Portuguese Cup between Famalicao and Benfica Lisbon is eagerly awaited on Tuesday evening. When looking at the betting odds, however, it quickly becomes clear that the leader of the Primeira Liga has the best chance of making the leap to the Taca de Portugal for the first time since 2017.
The “Aguias” prevailed 3-2 in the first leg in front of their home crowd, but had more problems than expected. Since the away goals rule also applies in the country of the European champion of 2016, the underdog would even be able to score a 1-0 victory in front of their own fans to land the coup. But this doesn’t really seem likely.
