DFB Cup final not on May 23 in Berlin – date remains open

The final in the DFB-Pokal should take place on May 23 in Berlin, but the coronavirus has put a spanner in the works. Here we tell you when the finale rises, where it can be seen and how you can get tickets.

Date: When is the DFB Cup final?

The DFB Cup final will NOT take place on May 23, 2020 in Berlin. As the German Football Association announced, the competition will remain indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic and the final date is open. The venue would be the Berlin Olympic Stadium as usual. The finals of the national cup competition have been taking place there since 1985. Previously, the final venues were mostly selected at short notice and depending on the final pairing, in order to enable the respective fans to travel as far as possible.

How do I get tickets for the DFB Cup final?

While tickets for the games up to the final can be ordered directly through the offers of the respective clubs, tickets for the final are only available through the DFB itself. Fans can apply for the final tickets through the official ticket shop of the German Football Association , but then have to hope to get a ticket by lottery.

 

Who is still playing for victory in the DFB Cup?

A total of 64 teams competed in the DFB Cup in the 2019/2020 season, four of which are left. 1. FC Saarbrücken, Bayern Munich, Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt.

When do semi-finals take place?

The semi-finals were drawn on March 8, 2020. The games themselves, like the finals, have not yet been scheduled. They could be seen live on free-to-air TV and on the pay-TV channel Sky. Here is an overview of the knockout duels:

Is the video evidence used in the DFB Cup?

Yes, but not for all games. As of this season, the referees are allowed to call in the video assistant in controversial situations from the round of 16 this season. In the past two seasons, this was only allowed from the quarterfinals. The games of the 1st and 2nd round thus far had to do without video evidence.

FC Bayern Munich is the record winner of the DFB Cup with 19 cup wins and 23 final appearances. Werder Bremen follows behind Bayern with six wins and ten final appearances in second place ahead of Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt with five wins each (with twelve or eight final appearances).
