Under normal circumstances, Europa League qualifiers, especially in the first rounds, are welcome locations for Groundhoppers. In times of crisis, however, all UEFA matches go on completely without spectators, including the duel on Thursday afternoon between Borac Banja Luka and Sutjeska Niksic, in which the home side are considered favorites according to the odds.

For the fourth placed in the Bosnian Premier League, the return to the international stage just one year after being promoted from the second division is not only a great satisfaction, but also a huge adventure that is far from over in the first round of qualification should.

The guests from Montenegro are almost regulars in European business. So far, however, there has been no great success. The highest of emotions was reaching the third qualifying round last season. Both clubs have so far been able to take part in the main competition.

The main reason why the best bookmakers place the advantages on the home side is that the Bosnians have a higher level of gaming practice and also claim the bonus of the home game for themselves.

In view of the latest results, it makes sense to venture a prediction on the former team between Borac Banja Luka and Sutjeska Niksic. The fact is that a decision has to be made on Thursday after the penalty shoot-out at the latest. There will be no second legs up to the playoffs in this year’s qualification.

Borac Banja Luka – Statistics & current form

The most successful years of Borac Banja Luka are not that long ago. In 2010, the club from northern Bosnia was crowned cup winner for the first time. The only championship to date followed a year later. These two seasons brought Borac, translated into German: “The fighter”, the latest international experience. In both 2010/2011 and 2012/2013, however, the red-blue-whites failed in their opening hurdles, in 2012 even to Celik Niksic, the city rival of the upcoming opponent.

Coach Vlado Jagodic’s team owed their comeback on the European stage last season. In the year one after the renewed promotion from the second division Banja Luka reached the surprising fourth place and convinced especially in front of the home crowd.

Borac Banja Luka is hard to beat at home

With seven wins, three draws and only one defeat, Borac was one of the top three home teams in the Bosnian Premier League. This proven home strength is one of the reasons to give his tip on the Bosnians on Thursday between Borac Banja Luka and Sutjeska Niksic. Another argument is the current constitution.

The Jagodic-Elf already has significantly more competitive games in their legs compared to the Montenegrins, which must definitely be declared an advantage at this early point in a new game year. The new season got off to a good start with three wins and two losses. Once again, “the fighter” knew how to convince at home. In the Banja Luka Stadium there were nine points from three games, with a goal difference of 9: 0.

The dress rehearsal failed last weekend at Siroki Brijeg, but head coach Jagodic let an improved B-Eleven appear. The top performers Ziljkić, Vranješ, Zakarić and Lukić were all spared, which underlines the value and importance of the Europa League qualification for the hosts.

Probable formation of Borac Banja Luka:
➤ Pavlovic – Subic, Cosic, Jovanovic, Dujakovic – Danilovic, Vranjes, Bosancic, Ziljkic, Zakaric – Lukic

Sutjeska Niksic – Statistics & current form

For the Montenegrin representative Sutjeska Niksic, international games have been the rule rather than the exception in the recent past. Since 2017/2018, the blue-whites have been a permanent fixture in the European Cup qualifying rounds. So far, however, there has been no upward slip.

Only in the 2019/2020 preseason could the four-time national champion (most recently in 2019) hope to reach a group stage for the first time. Ultimately, however, the Linfield FC from Northern Ireland was a size too big in the third qualifying round for the Europa League.

This continued a worrying trend, because of the 24 games played in international business in the club’s history, Niksic was only able to win two. On the other hand there are 14 defeats. The second most popular club in the country, behind Buducnost Podgorica, only qualified for the next round in two out of twelve cases.

Sutjeska and the European Cup: Not an intimate love affair

Speaking of Podgorica: Last weekend, the reigning champions and arch rivals suffered a bitter 0: 1 bankruptcy, through which the runner-up made the perfect false start. On the first day of the match, the team of coach Radojicic, who has been on the bridge near Sutjeska since the end of July, fell short of their potential in a 3: 3 at home against Petrovac.

The expandable form and the almost disastrous historical record in international competition justify the lower odds on the home win after regular time between Borac Banja Luka and Sutjeska Niksic. To make matters worse, from the point of view of the guests, that with Cicmil and Bulatovic, the supposedly two most important defenders are threatened with injury.

Probable formation of Sutjeska Niksic:
➤ Gilijen – Stijepovic, Sofranac, Mitrovic, Pajovic – Jankovic, Dubljevic, Cetkovic, Osmajic, Kojasevic – Adrovic
